ABSTRACT

The 18 km long fixed link across the Storebælt Strait, often referred to as the Storebælt Fixed Link or the Great Belt Link, comprises two bridges and a tunnel. It is the only fixed link for road and rail traffic between east and west Denmark; see Figure 4.1. Construction of the link took place between 1989 and 1998. The political will was that the link should be built as two separate entities, one for rail and one for road traffic, and that the rail link should open before the road link.
