ABSTRACT
Timing of examination. Although the most recent literature shows the improvements achieved in the detection of fetal abnormalities as early as possible during pregnancy (i.e., 12-14 weeks), ultrasound (US) screening for fetal brain malformations is commonly performed at 19-21 weeks’ gestation. For the assessment of the fetal brain, the secondtrimester anomaly scan includes the following axial planes: transthalamic, transventricular, and transcerebellar [1-3].
