ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews and reinforces the nondeformable control volume analysis of mass, momentum, energy, and entropy associated with steady and unsteady fluid flows in their most general form, including the treatment of linear and angular momentum equations in both inertial and non-inertial reference frames. Various analysis techniques that are discussed in this chapter form the basis for more complex analyses in fluid mechanics, including three-dimensional computational flow dynamics (CFD). They are also a prerequisite to the material covered in later chapters of this book. Readers are encouraged to master the concepts and methods presented in this chapter to develop an improved understanding of fluid flows.
