ABSTRACT

Epigenetics refer to abnormalities in gene expression due to somatic heritable modi-cations in chromatin organization and alterations in prole and function of noncoding RNAs (Baylin and Jones, 2011). Research evidence produced during the past two decades clearly validated the concept that in addition to changes in genetic information, i.e., germline or somatic mutations and polymorphisms, an important modier of cancer risk is the accumulation of epigenetic alterations, i.e., the cancer epigenome (Esteller, 2007). The signicance of unraveling how epigenetic alterations
