ABSTRACT

The integration of innovation and lean is not confined to the formal events of the Virginia Mason Production System (VMPS). Everyone in the Virginia Mason culture, from executives to frontline staff, is encouraged to apply the concepts and tools of lean and innovation to their day-to-day work. This is a natural consequence of the lean principle of pursuing perfection and the strategic goal of achieving the perfect patient experience. At Virginia Mason, everything matters and everything can be done differently and better. Everything is a candidate for change at any of the seven levels of change.
