ABSTRACT

In the influential book The Innovator’s Prescription: A Disruptive Solution for Health Care, the authors mapped a strategy for reducing the cost of delivering healthcare by dramatically increasing the efficiency of the healthcare industry (Christensen et al., 2008). This strategy underlies a central component of current federal policy, which is funded through the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). ARRA committed substantial funds to strengthen the role of health information technology (HIT) in our healthcare system.
