ABSTRACT
Water and water pressures have a profound effect on soil behaviour and on geotechnical engineering. Pressures in the water in the pores of soil influence its strength and stiffness. Water flows through soil providing water supply but also flooding excavations. The influence of pore pressures on strength and stiffness can be the most important aspect of soil behaviour.
