ABSTRACT
The essential features of soil behaviour during loading and unloading can be seen in typical stress-strain curves from simple soil tests.
The soil loading test apparatus commonly used to determine strength and stiffness parameters for routine design are triaxial cells, oedometers and direct or simple shear. Each applies stress and strain to the sample in different configurations (Section 6.1).
