ABSTRACT
The existence of a medium in which the disturbance resides and through which it propagates is implicitly assumed. The medium through which the wave moves need not experience [bulk] motion.
WAVE SPEED The speed at which the wave propagates, c, is determined primarily by the medium in which it moves. The wave speed exhibits dependence on certain aspects of the wave itself through the phenomenon of dispersion.
