ABSTRACT
The Canonical Ensemble, in the present context, is not the name of a group of musicians. Instead, an ensemble is a vast assemblage of equivalent thermodynamic systems. Information of a statistical nature about the system is obtained by surveying the ensemble. The distinction canonical refers to the particular set of constraints imposed on the members of the ensemble. These are elaborated upon below.
