ABSTRACT
Standing waves may arise from the superposition of left-and rightmoving repeating waves residing in the same medium. A plethora of possibilities exist in that the frequencies [and wavelengths] and/or amplitudes may be the same or differ. Phase effects occur in the situations of greatest interest and give rise to a form of selection rule. In this chapter, our attention is given over to analyses of equal frequency/wavelength-equal amplitude cases.
