ABSTRACT

In Chapter 1, ocean tides were invoked to justify relaxation of the assumption of rigidity which underlies all of volume i. Here, and in the next few chapters, we shall abandon rigidity altogether and briefly touch upon the subject of Fluid Mechanics. First, we’ll investigate Fluid Statics, by which we mean fluid systems which are at rest and quiescent [i.e., the bulk characteristics of the fluid do not exhibit explicit time dependence].
