ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book. The book introduces many unique, high-performance traveling wave-based circuits, such as multi phase oscillators, transceivers, interleaved analog-to-digital converters, and interleaved digital-to-analog converters for future communication electronics. Communications, one form or other, has been one of the most valuable tools for man. In addition to communications, high-frequency signals have found a new role in the emerging field of THz sensing. There is an interesting electromagnetic band in the range from 100 up to 10 GHz that contains unique frequencies serving as specific markers for many medical and scientific applications. This band is nowadays called 'THz gap' since neither electronics nor optics can handle it well. However, as the demand for more bandwidth grows, the microwave frequency bands come into play as resources to be tapped despite the hardware design challenges and cost limitations.
