ABSTRACT

Nebulization therapy: a multifactorial route for drug administration Inhalation therapy administered by a nebulizer system encompasses many different practical aspects each of which may affect the outcome of the treatment.1-3 Information and instructions regarding what is effective treatment, as well as practical training in how to handle the drug(s), how to use and clean the nebulizer, effective inhalation technique (Figure 12.1) and timing the inhalations are often omitted when nebulizer systems are prescribed/delivered to patients.4,5 Most healthcare professionals have little or no knowledge or training when it comes to the practical applications of this kind of treatment that comprises so many potentially undermining steps.
