ABSTRACT
Delirium (acute confusional state) is characterized by an acute onset of
global but fluctuating disturbance of cognitive function, with distur-
bances in levels of consciousness – reduced clarity of awareness of the
environment with reduced ability to focus, sustain or shift attention.
