Local patterns were found by applying biclustering methods to the data matrix. A bicluster can be of interest in case it contains genes that are not only regulated under a subset of conditions but are also mostly functionally coherent. The summarized expression profiles of these genes that act in concert to carry out a specific function will then be presented as a gene module. Hence, a gene module is a subset of known genes for which a local pattern is observed across a subset of compounds.
