ABSTRACT

This chapter provides the evidence, rationale, and industry approach to the risk management of salmonellosis attributed to Australian-produced pork over the past 15  years. It utilizes ofcial public health-monitoring data and details that were supplemented by industry-generated data to inform industry and regulatory risk management policy and programs. Where appropriate, an epidemiological critique of the value and limitations of public health, regulatory, and industry surveillance programs is provided. Future approaches to attribution and mitigation are presented.
