ABSTRACT
Risk assessment perhaps is the most practiced and studied component of risk management and can be considered the fulcrum of the risk management efforts. For without assessment, the other components cannot be processed. This chapter addresses risk assessment from a civil infrastructure perspective. We start the chapter by exploring the rich body of knowledge regarding risk assessment in civil engineering followed by an overview of the remainder of the chapter.
