ABSTRACT

An integral part of risk management is the risk treatment process. Perhaps the process of risk treatment existed even in a non-risk management environment. Because most perceived safety or deterioration problems in the civil infrastructure community, which have been assessed using paradigms other than risk (such as reliability or exposure), were actually treated using subjective estimates of cost implications; such treatments can arguably be called risk treatments. The main purpose of this chapter is to explore the risk treatment component of risk management and identify a few objectives as well as subjective methods that can be used to increase decision-making efciency.
