Synonyms: †Bothrophis Zittel, 1889 (nomen praeoccupatum), and †Borthrophis – Huene, 1956 (nomen incorrectum).
Type species: †Botrophis gaudryi Rochebrune, 1880. Distribution: Lower Miocene of France. Remarks: Boidae or Viperidae fide Rage (1984b: 33).
