ABSTRACT

Many researchers, authors, and theorists have contributed to developing the theories of culture and trust and have alluded to the important role that culture may play in the trust-building process. Cultural values can directly influence the erosion or development of trust; therefore, the culture of an organization can affect people’s willingness and ability to trust. As a result, culture can be viewed and used as a tool to unite or divide people, teams, and organizations. Culture can also affect people’s perceptions of fairness and equity in the decision-making process. Thus,  it  is

important for managers to understand better how trust is developed and the ways culture can influence the trust-building process. The literature review and empirical research discussed in this book seek to build a better understanding of the relationship between organizational culture and the level of trust found in technology-based organizations. Although the two studies discussed in this book focus on technology-based organizations, the results and knowledge gained through the studies can be applied to businesses globally.
