ABSTRACT
One of the ultimate goals in biology is to understand the relationship between structure, function, and dynamics of biomolecules in their natural environment: the living cell. Although modern molecular biology has made enormous progress in identifying a full repertoire of proteins, lipids, and other molecular components both inside the cell and at the cell membrane, direct visualization of molecular interactions in living cells remains a major challenge.
