Adults and children in the USA experience two to six episodes of common cold per year [1,2] and the morbidity and loss of working hours due to this are substantial. The complications of the common cold include otitis media, sinusitis, and exacerbations of reactive airway diseases. The clinical syndrome of the common cold is caused by a variety of different viruses [3]. The rhinoviruses are the most frequent.
