ABSTRACT

RDA refers to the value of the daily dietary intake level of a nutrient considered suf-cient to meet the requirements of 97-98% of healthy individuals of different ages and gender. Because of rapid growth of research on the role of nutrients in human health, the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the USA, in collaboration with Health Canada, updated the values of RDAs and renamed them as dietary reference intakes (DRIs) in 1998. Since then, the DRI values are used by both the USA and Canada. The DRI values of selected nutrients are listed in Tables 10.1 through 10.21. The DRI values are not currently used in nutrition labeling, but the RDA values of nutrients continue to be used for this purpose. The DRI values for carotenoids, alpha-lipoic acid, N-acetylcysteine, coenzyme Q10 and l-carnitine have not been determined. The values in Tables 10.1-10.21 are adapted and summarized from the tables of the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI) published by https://www .nap.edu.
