ABSTRACT
Agents stop the transfer of oxygen from blood to the rest of the body by inhibiting the enzyme cytochrome oxidase (COX). The lack of oxygen rapidly affects all body tissues, especially the central nervous system, producing headache, dizziness, confusion, stupor, nausea, and vomiting. Some of these agents will also cause lung membranes to swell and become filled with liquid (pulmonary edema).
