ABSTRACT
Painting with light is necessary when reduced lighting creates a need for added illumination and a single flash is not sufficient to illuminate the subject or subjects. Paintingwith-light utilizes the theory that light is additive. Light can be continuously poured onto and over a subject until a proper exposure is obtained. The final recorded image is obtained after the application of all the wanted or needed light is added to the composition. Consequently, the final product is the total accumulation of light. Photographers should not think of the streaks or individual brush strokes of light, but rather of the finished product. Like painting a fence, one does not worry about the individual brush strokes, one only cares that the fence appears uniform in color at the end. In painting with light, photographers are looking for a uniform light exposure.
