A disaster is a state in which a population, population group, or an individual is unable to cope with or overcome the adverse effects of an extreme event without outside help. The impact of an extreme event may include significant physical damage or destruction, loss of life, or drastic change to the environment. It is a phenomenon that can cause damage to life and property and destroy the economic, social, and cultural life of people.
