ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we outline the steps required to integrate a supply chain. The steps involve all functions in an organization. Companies must build internal relationships (within the company) before they can build external relationships (other companies). Integration is a demanding and continuous process; it is ongoing because conditions and relationships are never permanent. Simplicity sounds desirable; however, supply chains are complex. Cooperation is good, but collaboration is better. Integration is a worthy goal, but integrated supply chains require innovation and added change. As you read this company profile and the chapter in the book, think about these questions:

• How long should it take to integrate a supply chain? How can the time be shortened?
