ABSTRACT

Cellulose has attracted significant attention for many years due to its low cost, abundance, bio-renewability, and widespread use in paper and cotton products. Further, a growing interest has developed to extend the range of cellulose applications by modifying its properties through plasma treatments. In this entry, we provide a brief review of cellulose modification using nonthermal plasmas. Cellulose modification mechanisms, chemical and physical property changes, and potential applications of plasma-treated cellulose-based materials are discussed.
