ABSTRACT
This entry submits a short review of principles of construction, design features, parameters, and also possible applications of electron sources with a plasma emitter. Types of discharges used as emission plasma generators are considered. Conditions of emission and acceleration of electrons extracted from plasma are presented. Scopes in which plasma sources have advantages in comparison with sources based on thermocathode are specified.
