ABSTRACT

In this chapter we will describe two applications of the measurement techniques that have been discussed in the previous chapters.

One of the important aspects of a vector network analyzer (VNA) is in applications for small signal device modeling. In this case study we will try to put forth this application in an interesting way, by deriving an equivalent small signal electrical model of the human finger from VNA measurements. Such an equivalent electrical model of the human finger can potentially be used in capacitive touch sensing applications like track pads in laptops, touch screens in smart phones, capacitive touch buttons, etc. Such an accurate electrical model of the human finger is essential for developing robust touch sensing algorithms and controllers, to minimize and eliminate false detection and true rejection in touch sensors under dynamic environments.
