ABSTRACT
Over the past few decades, bio-inspired design strategy (BIDS) has become a very successful approach in the design of engineering structures or and components with specific functions required by engineering applications.1 In the area of application of BIDS in fiber composites, for example, a tree branch joint can be mimicked for designing synthetic composite T-piece joints in aerospace structures that will improve damage resilience under extreme loading.2
