An initial scout abdomen radiograph (kidney-ureterbladder [KUB]) is taken to assess for the presence of calculi along the urinary tract, as well as examine the spine for dysraphism (spina bida). e stool burden also can be assessed. Subsequently, using sterile technique, the bladder is catheterized with a feeding tube. A urine specimen is usually obtained and sent to the laboratory for culture.
