ABSTRACT

Apparent inconsistency makes the law look more like a game than a rational system for enforcing justice.

Officer Christopher Merritt’s Story I was less than a year out of the academy and was writing my first affidavit for a search warrant to recover stolen property. When I called one of my previous field training officers (FTOs) and explained what I was working on, he was supportive but said he’d never obtained a search warrant in 15 years. He suggested that I call one of the Crimes Against Property detectives.
