7.1.1 Lunar Minerals

Lunar minerals have directly led to the early evolution of lunar crust and interacting geological processes. But the composition of lunar surface is relatively simple, primarily dominated by clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene, plagioclase, olivine, ilmenite, and agglutinitic glass (Papike et al. 1991; Taylor et al. 2001). The recent lunar missions, for example, SELenological and ENgineering Explorer (SELENE) Kaguya, Chang’E-1, and Chandrayaan-1, provided new opportunities to explore and understand these issues (Jin et al. 2013; Wei et al. 2013).
