ABSTRACT

Pulverized coal (PC) fired boilers will continue to play an important role in electricity generation for the foreseeable future. Considering the central role of the combustion furnace in such boilers, there is tremendous potential for applying computational models to enhance the performance of such PC fired boilers. Successful modeling of PC fired boiler requires expertise from different fields, ranging from coal chemistry to fluid mixing and transport processes. Computational flow modeling (or CFD) is being increasingly used for improving combustion processes and combustion equipment. We hope that this book conveys the potential of computational modeling for applications to pulverized coal fired boilers and facilitates further improvements in the design, operation, and optimization of such systems.
