ABSTRACT

Optical —ber ampli—ers are dominating the loss compensation in —ber-optic communication systems, especially the erbium-doped types for communication spectrum based on silica —bers. Several models have been developed for such photonic ampli—cation devices. However, there are no comprehensive models developed in MATLAB® Simulink® platform. This chapter describes in detail the development of aSimulink model for erbiumdoped —ber ampli—ers (EDFAs) operating under steady state and dynamic condition.
