ABSTRACT

The business value of an analytics program is severely devalued if the utility is inhibited from making better decisions in an increasingly dynamic environment

because the information presented doesn’t make sense. This chapter introduces the basic concepts of data visualization and describes how, due to the way humans process information, data visualization may be one of the important answers to the question “What are we going to do with all that data?” We discuss the foundation necessary to develop a sense of visual literacy and an understanding of when to incorporate visualization strategies and how they can be beneficial in all aspects of the utility business.
