ABSTRACT

Melatonin (Mel) is a major indole released from the pineal gland and shows various biological effects such as the regulation of circadian rhythms, seasonal reproduction, and body temperature via high-afnity receptors on the cell membrane (Figure 34.1) (Brydon et al. 1999, Niles et al. 2013, Sharma et al. 2006, Sotthibundhu et al. 2010, Witt-Enderby et al. 2000, 2006).
