ABSTRACT

Gabapentin and Pregabalin Both drugs are absorbed and transported by the L-amino acid transporter system and neither is metabolised. There have been no systematic investigations into the disposition of either gabapentin or pregabalin throughout pregnancy, but theoretically the increase in glomerular filtration may result in decreased drug concentrations. One study of six pregnancies in women prescribed gabapentin investigated the pharmacokinetics of gabapentin during delivery, lactation and into the neonatal period, but did not follow plasma concentrations throughout the whole period of gestation and compare them with pre-conception data (86).
