ABSTRACT

Data warehousing has become a popular approach for organisations to gather their disparate data into one place. Geographic data is ideally suited to this type of aggregation. The ability of organisations to discover new relationships between the aggregated data has driven greater investment in data warehousing and so has the need for online publication of data. This chapter introduces some common data warehouse terms, architectures and approaches with reference to the management of geographical data in these infrastructures, in particular, spatial and temporal data management.
