ABSTRACT
Such soft bodies can fossilize only under extraordinary conditions and with the help of mineralizing bacteria. On the other hand, more aerated sediments are full of trails and burrows made by worm-like animals. As a kind of extended phenotype, these trace fossils tell us a lot about the behavior of the trace makers, while their taxonomic identity remains largely unknown.
