ABSTRACT
T o illustrate this approach to the analysis of tables wi th ordered
categories, the data in Table 7.1 w i l l be used. These data consist of
a sample of 223 boys classified accord ing to age and to whether or
not they had been rated as inveterate liars. A n overal l chi-square
test on Table 7.1 gives a value of 6.69 wi th four d.f. (p = 0.15), leading
to the conclus ion that there is no associat ion between age and ly ing .
T h i s is, however, a test which covers all forms of departure from
