ABSTRACT

Private clubs are hospitality organizations where individual owners with common interests, experiences, backgrounds, and professions congregate for social and recreational purposes [1]. There are two important leaders in private club governance: nonpaid leaders (e.g., boards of directors, committee members, and other volunteers) and paid leaders (e.g., general managers, chief operating officers, department heads, and supervisors). A unique aspect of private club governance is that a private club’s general manager. General Managers (GMs)/chief operating officers (COOs) collaborate closely with volunteer leaders, mainly with the board of directors and committees [2]. The board of directors represents the member owners and weighs in on important club issues such as sustainability.
