ABSTRACT

Experimental design in metabolomics studies includes five main aspects: (1) generation of a working hypothesis, (2) determination of metabolomics approach, (3) data acquisition (e.g., analytical conditions), (4) sample preparation (preparation of biological samples, quenching, and extraction methods), and (5) data analysis (use of statistical analyses to visualize the data). Although the importance of these topics is relevant to all biological analyses,

there are several points that require special consideration for a successful metabolomics work. In this chapter, several technical tips and know-how are introduced and discussed.
