ABSTRACT

Much of the raw materials used by manufacturers of fabricated metal products is in the form of wide master coils or large master sheets that are purchased from either mills or service centers. Master coils typically range in width from 30 in. to 60 in. Master sheets typically range from 30 in. to 60 in. in width, and from 96 in. to 144 in. in length. A master coil or master sheet is defined as a coil or sheet that is used to produce many different slit coils or part blanks. The sheet is processed through a series of slitting, blanking, slearing, or shearing operations into smaller slit coils, or smaller rectangular parts.
