ABSTRACT

Metal spinning is one method of manufacturing parts from sheet metal. Almost all parts made by metal spinning share the characteristics of being round, hollow, symmetrical, and manufactured while being rotated on a machine ("spun"). It is commonly agreed that metal spinning goes back thousands of years to the Egyptians and most likely shares a common heritage with the potter's wheel because both processes form material into shapes while the material is rotating. During the Middle Ages, spinning became a very common method of forming hollow metal parts.
