ABSTRACT

Theinjuryanddeathsofworkersresultingfromindustrialoperationshavebecome lesstolerabletogovernmentauthoritiesandthepublic.Governmentprograms andindustrialactionshavesucceededinreducingthesetragicevents.Although significantprogresshasbeenmade,inrecentyears,fabricatedmetalproduct manufacturinghascausedinjuriesandillnesstoabout16.4workersper100fulltimeworkersasrecentlyas1994.Oftheseinjuries,aboutone-thirdwereserious enoughtocauselostdaysofwork.Ofallindustrialinjuries,approximately10% aretheresultofmachineoperations,andofthese,about3%arefataland15% resultinpermanentdisability.
