ABSTRACT

The first step in vibration control is to install the machine properly. An ongoing study shows that the structure of a machine, machine performance, and vibration control are significantly affected by the method used to install the machine. The vibration associated with metalforming machinery is usually intense, involves high levels of energy, and can be amplified to a high degree by the foundation and floor. Control of structure-borne vibration involves decoupling the machine from the foundation. Although decoupling is not the only step required in an effective vibration control program, it is the essential first step.
