ABSTRACT
As well as learning statistical techniques, the aspiring statistician needs to develop a sense of numeracy. This is rather hard to define and cultivate, but involves general numerical ‘common sense’, some knowledge of probability and statistics, sound judgement and the ability to ‘make sense’ of a set of numbers.
